In the ‘70’s it became a favorite of musicians and was nicknamed the “Gig Bag” because it was ideal for carrying the needs of those constantly on the go. In the 80’s this bag design morphed into what has become the basic “Messenger Bag” and is an enduring popular design for business, sport and travel. It has been modified with padding for secure toting of laptops, iPads, notebooks and similar modern requisites of electronic mobility." - Irwin
